Highlights of the Day

-Horseback Riding
-Valley of Machachi

Heading south for about one hour from down town Quito we descend into the valley of Machachi, a green territory mainly covered by dairy farms until detour to access to Hacienda La Alegria, a great way to get introduced into the spirit of the Andean Haciendas and their daily works.

Visit the grounds and get suited for an approximately two hours horseback riding along old cobblestone roads and trails leading to a great view point of La Viudita, overlooking the entire valley. Along the way we will enjoy more panoramic views. Return to Hacienda house,freshen up and enjoy a typical lunch hosted by the Hacienda owner. After lunch get ready for an exciting demonstration by the Chagras, with their riding and working skills.

* Enjoy a leisure afternoon in the grounds, followed by a nice homemade dinner and a recovering night sleep at Hacienda La Alegria.

** (Go south to reach Hacienda San Agustin de Callo, an unique property built over the remains of an imperial Inca house on the west flank of the National Park where we check in. Time to adjust to altitude with a chance of some walking and nice relax by the fireplace. Dinner hosted by owners. Overnight.)

After breakfast, we go south again along the Pan-American highway to reach the City of Latacunga and make a short visit to Hacienda San Agustin de Callo, a unique colonial property built over the remains of an Inca facility. Then, we continue to one of the important rose plantations of the region.

After this visit, we proceed south to the city of Latacunga to visit a local market with colorful scenes of local people, varied fruits and vegetables. From here and only a few minutes away we will enjoy home hosted lunch at an artisan’s home where we will learn about their fascinating craft and work.

After lunch we will continue south along the “Avenue of the Volcanoes” on our way to Hacienda Manteles. Check in.

Enjoy a typical Andean hacienda dinner and a restful night sleep. (B/L/D)


Highlights of the Day

-Tungurahua Volcano
-“Route of the Waterfalls”

Today after a good breakfast we will explore the region of Baños, a well-known and picturesque village that is located on the base of Tungurahua volcano.

Visit the village and enjoy lunch at local restaurant. Later take an exciting drive down along the Pastaza River Canyon also called the “Route of the Waterfalls”.

After this varied scenery, we drive back to Hacienda Manteles for dinner and overnight. (B/L/D)

-Local Ceramic Workshop in Cotopaxi
-Hacienda La Cienega

After breakfast we head back to the heart of the Andean mountains to circle the base of Mount Chimborazo, the highest in the Ecuadorian Andes with spectacular views and a good chance to see vicuñas, grazing free on these extensive gravel plains.

A picnic lunch will be catered by Hacienda Manteles. Return north towards the province of Cotopaxi, with a stop at a native ceramic workshop. Our trip will continue to Hacienda La Cienega, a three hundred year country mansion converted into a hotel some years ago. Check in.

Enjoy the grounds of this magnificent state house along with a nice dinner. Overnight.(B/L/D)


Highlights of the Day

-Horseback Riding Excursion

After breakfast head to Cotopaxi National Park to reach Hacienda El Porvenir where after getting suited with riding chaps, ponchos and good hats we will have a great horseback riding excursion on the extensive meadows of Rumiñahui.

Return to Hacienda El Porvenir for lunch.

After lunch, return to Quito with a stop at Hacienda La Carriona, another old property that is almost absorbed by the growing city. Here we will have a traditional cup of coffee and home baked bread, then we will do our last drive to reach your hotel in downtown Quito. (B/L/-)


Private English speaking guide and driver with A/C vehicles, all meals as detailed on the program, accommodation in selected properties, visits, excursions daily bottled water and activities. This excursion is a private basis tour however it might include certain shared or group visits on some locations.
