SOUTH AVENUE 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS

DAY 1: VILCABAMBA

The first destination of this tour will be Vilcabamba, this nice valley is well known as the Longevity Valley, as people live longer than anywhere else in the world. Nobody knows the exact reason, but many theories exist take advantage of all the attractions that this small town could offer you and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. Accommodation in Vilcabamba.

DAY 2: TREKKING AROUND VILCABAMBA VALLEY (B)

After breakfast will continue into a full day of experience and encounter with the nature around the valley of Vilcabamba, The valleys average altitude is around 1,500 meters and its highest peaks rise till 3,500 meters, depending on the weather conditions this could be snowcapped mountains. The area offer lush vegetation and an attractive mild climate accompany with a high diversity of fauna. There are different options of trekking, including self-guided trails, of different lengths. You will be given the different options by your guide in your previous night briefing so you can decide what the best option for you is. Overnight in Vilcabamba.

DAY 3: VILCABAMBA – ZARUMA (B)

After breakfast we will continue our journey to the next town – Zaruma. This picturesque small town is located in the neighbor province of Loja. One of the most interesting things about Zaruma is the fact that many of the buildings located there are constructed entirely of wood. The town is even home to one of Ecuador’s most popular wooden churches. Many of the buildings are also beautifully painted with the expert hands of the local craftsmen, making them as colorful and intriguing as the inhabitants of this area. Gold mining is one of the principal economical activities in this town, and has been a tradition passed over from one generation to another; this is also one of the tourist attractions that the town can offer. You can also enjoy an easy moderate trekking up to a hill where you will have a spectacular view of the whole town and relax a bit after the excursion around the town. Overnight in Zaruma.

DAY 4: ZARUMA – MACHALA (B)

Early in the morning the gold mines are the place for our next visit, considered as a highlight. El Sexmo Mine is located 15 minutes from the city of Zaruma. This gold mine is currently one of the main attractions of the city, as a lot of history is involved here from the colonialism time where gold was taken out and sent to the king of Spain. You will be able to visit inside the mine and experience a little of history as it no longer operates. After your excursion in Zaruma our guide will transfer you to Machala, which is the capital city of El Oro Province, and is famous for its gastronomy, overnight in Machala.

 

DAY 5: MACHALA – GUAYAQUIL (B)

After breakfast we will continue our journey from Machala to a cocoa plantation where we will learn many things about the procedure of cocoa and chocolate. After this visit we will head to Guayaquil among the Ecuadorian coast for a two hour drive. Arriving to Guayaquil, we will continue on a city tour, which takes place in the downtown area, where we can have a nice overview of the old city by visiting Las Peñas district, located at the slopes of Santa Ana Hill. From this point, it is possible to enjoy an excellent view of the modern Malecon 2000, located in the shores of Guayas River, as well as a fine example of original architecture in Guayaquil. At the Malecon we will visit La Rotonda, an important monument that immortalizes the meeting between generals Simon Bolivar and San Martin, The Moorish Clock Tower and many other attractive sights. Afterwards, walk in the old town through 9 de Octubre Avenue, to visit the Seminario Park, also known as the Iguanas and Centenario Park.
